New America (USA) Artist Carter Exhibitions at Saatchi Gallery Carter work reflects a fascination and unease with the human body as a metaphor for the anguish of the character, the body being a projection outwards and the definition of self-image. Untitled is literally a blank canvas. Here Carter has a profile in manufacturing: semi-finished portraits are accompanied by forms patchy bottom, inviting the viewer's participation in the realization of the image. With the piecemeal assembly, Carter attributes his characters with personality traits and physical characteristics: the subtle quality of line, tone, and placement of his characters to solve as fluctuating and conflicting personalities.
Although the drawings are directed by Carter aesthetics intuitive, they evolve from a consumer incredibly long and considered process. Carter begins each work by making his own paper marbleised. Referencing the brush emotional expressionist painting abstract patterns of vortices are created by Carter using a "drop" procedure dipping individual leaves in a solution of water and oil - a process similar to photography developing . Through these drawings as a model on which many drawings are arranged and glued, Carter merges repetitive forms with its "snapshot" of color fields, creating a symbiosis between the intimacy of conceptual abstraction and mechanization of pop.
