Safe Space Heaters

When I go to bed at night, I was putting my heater for one hour, sometimes two, but when I wake up several hours later, it's very cold again. I want to know if it is safe to set the timer for 6 or 7 hours and have it stay on all night?

It is certain, however, do this they suck so much power I would put on a surge protector.
