Not the reigning Three Sub 9.8 Runners Managed to clock the fastest time in preliminary heats Friday morning, the track favorites Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Tyson Gay and everything he does through their first rounds of the men's 100 meter dash at the 29th Olympiad in Beijing. These favorites of the crowd are all under 9.8 seconds, the reigning runners. But in their playoff series, two of them (both Jamaicans) just sailed easily to the finish line while their American counterpart has much work to finish first in his first race since he 's has hurt his hamstring in the trial of United States.
Bolt, the world record holder Jamaican 9.72 seconds got the ball when it crosses the heat in a time of 10.20 seconds.
The 21-year-old ran in her comfort zone and went even slower than 50 meters to go, defeating Antigua Daniel Bailey, who finished second in 10.24.
Bolt cooling after the heat has been quoted, "Tonight, tonight, tonight!" His fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell came out of the blocks with a speed of rocket type, and then eased down in 40m final to win heat two in 10.16. Former world champion Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis finished just behind in 10.17. All three were skilled Jamaicans, like Michael Frater won four heat 10.15.
Another easy trail came from Trinidad and Tobago camp. Ricardo Thompson, who, like Bolt, cruising home 10.24 heat three.
And probably because of his injured leg, Tyson Gay took five years in the heat 10.22, run faster than usual in these early rounds and seemed to fight to the end.
This was more like a workout a real test. Anyway, Gay did in the first round of the dashboard Olympic 100 meters Friday.
Racing for the first time since crumpling to the floor with a hamstring injury six weeks ago, the fastest sprinter in America has worked its Olympic debut in Beijing, not really freewheeling (as the Jamaicans do) to finish to win his heat in 10.22 seconds.
"It feels good," Gay said, referring to his left thigh. "I felt a little slow in the first round, but my body is awake now."
On Friday morning, the sky blue have been poured over all. It was a rarity in Beijing since the Games began last week, and he welcomed the runners as they started the day in the stadium of 91,000 seats, with the temperature around 80 degrees. Entering the day, he was concerned about the status Gay, although he has been to ensure everyone in Beijing he's fine. Everyone was really excited to hear news on his hamstring after rounding the first corner of the 200 Olympic trials. The world has witnessed its 100 and 200 champion as he pulled up, then sprawled, not finishing the race. It was to be carted to the track - just the configuration he wanted before his first Olympics. For that reason, Gay withdrew from a race in London last month, then skipped the U.S. training camp in China, choosing to come directly to Beijing in March at the opening ceremony last week.
Lining Track 2, this was the first race since the injury Gay. While other commentators said he had an easy round robin, it was not as easy as the startup type of energy saving Powell and Bolt did. Bolt needs to go easy because he is eyeing for two individual medals. Even if he holds the record for the 100, the 200 was his best race, and it was due last Monday (three days after the opening of the track and field). Only after some hemming and hawing not commit Bolt running the 100 and Olympic games.
Holding the record of 100 meters at 9.74 before Bolt broke Powell has just given a boost after winning his heat. It also has its share of injuries, overcoming a chest injury that made him miss much of the season, but insists that healing and what fans are most interested in how it responds to pressure. Not known as a performer grand race, he finished fifth.
