Planet RecyclingBe Green: Recycle your old computer equipment

The fight for the planet is running. It is now fully proven, without doubt, clear that the earth is fighting for his life. During his short life but fatal human civilization has placed a strain on resources devastating the planet and health.

It is now our duty to reverse this ill, even if it may be too late. There are thousands of ways people can contribute to the cause: to take on old techniques such as recycling paper to use new technologies such as fuel-efficient cars. I want to focus on a particular way through which people can help the planet recycle computer equipment.

Discard used network hardware, monitors, hard drives, routers, RAM, webcam, batteries or something similar can be devastating if the equipment is found in our landfills.

From nysscpa.org:
Most environmental concerns are with computers with monitor, in particular its cathode ray tube (CRT). Each color monitor contains, on average, four to five pounds of lead, considered hazardous waste when disposed of according to EPA standards. Computers also contain other hazardous materials, including mercury, cadmium (a carcinogen), and hexavalent chromium (as shown to cause high blood pressure, poor blood, liver disease, iron, and nerve damage and the brain in animals).

One way to get rid of old computer equipment is to make a donation to the nonprofit organizations of many who accepted it. Many local schools and nonprofit could benefit greatly from your old computer equipment. Two sites to help you make a donation and are sharetechnology.org cristina.org .

If you think your equipment is beyond repair or reuse, a disposal option is the complete dismantling of equipment. Many hardware manufacturers, including Dell, Apple and HP to provide their own programs to dismantle and recycle old equipment. You can visit each of their respective sites to learn how these programs work.

The last option is to seek a recycling program material or reputable online asset recovery program. A problem with the computer sales context is that consumers are often driven to buy upgrades or better hardware. This cycle creates more waste at the other end, when the old model equipment is "placed at the door of the house 'by the young model.

Most of the time, experienced professionals the equipment may actually be able to repair or recover your old equipment. Instead of buying new equipment, you can save money and the environment through the repair, reuse and recycle your hardware. There are several online vendors who will pay top dollar for your used Cisco, Dell, Apple, HP, or any hardware brand. This creates an "eco-system" for the hardware that the profits of the planet rather than harming it.

Some of these vendors provide repair services and recycling resell the refurbished computer equipment at a lower price. In return, businesses and consumers can then purchase a refurbished Cisco and refurbished Juniper router, a Dell or a Mac PowerBook with a reduced price. The key to this cycle is not new equipment must be built, and in turn create additional waste.

Many citizens, cities, consumers and businesses still do not know how to dispose of computer equipment, even if it has become so commonplace. It is part of what the know-how "of knowledge is becoming commonplace.
