The Pursuit of Happiness

When the phrase "the pursuit of happiness" has been put on paper, a dream, a desire and a nation was born. Since that moment, millions have sacrificed their lives to flee to the "promised land" and continue to do so in hopes of pursuing an idea that has been reorganized and restructured over the decades in countless an idea that may be as abstract as you can to the continuation of a rainbow and trying to keep it in our hands. And it's not just the ones the family sacrifice their lives to land on this great continent, those too, born in freedom and choice, seems to have inherited this dream and have been immersed in this race from the time the air strikes in their lungs for the first time.

Thus, after hundreds of years without results, it seems that perhaps we may be driving something that does not exist and can not be held in the palms of hands, or touching the skin on our cheeks. Or maybe he was hiding all along under the covers on our beds or in corners of our minds, and if that is the case, then what is all this activity anyway the pursuit of happiness if she has been with us all this time?

To reflect on this journey of mountains and valleys, of triumph and excitement and joy and heartache that the people of this planet have been on since the upsetting words were tattooed on our minds and our body, we can not help but notice the pain and suffering that was the end result. And not only pain and suffering of the human race, but also pain and suffering that we have done our planet and all its inhabitants, human and animals.

The word is further defined as a hunt, a search or pursuit. The pursuit of happiness is realized that the hunt for a feeling of joy, fulfillment and purpose. As abstract as it sounds, this idea has been created has forced people to detach from the spirit in themselves and live from a space needs, desires and unavoidable.

Because happiness is not tangible, can we as humans ever be able to pursue, capture and retain the "happiness"?

Oprah friend and guest speaker, Rabbi Shmuley was quoted as saying that "happiness is not something to pursue. On the contrary, happiness is a byproduct of a life of purpose"

So once again, if happiness is highly desirable, we have to strip the layers of the practice and has held that the consequences of their own, with evidence of current conflicts, economic devastation and personal suffering and return to a state of being rather than simply making and hunting. Regardless of gender, race or religion, each of us has been given the air in our lungs and blood in our veins to live in this land for the sake of better life for ourselves and others. As unique as each snowflake unique, so are we. Talents and gifts, simple or complex, each individual has the ability born to live a life of power, freedom, joy and grace simply due to the expression of these unique needs.

So next time you are riding a roller coaster of happiness, or chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, you look inside and connect with the happiness that is already waiting patiently to be discovered.

Namaste.
