Huntsville Space MuseumTexas Historic Sites - kid-friendly?

We plan to visit family in South Texas this summer, and we would like to visit some historical sites on the road. (We live in North Central Texas.) Our daughter has just finished fourth grade, and loved the history of Texas last year, and the only times we've been to one of these places have all been before birth. Our son is almost two. I intend to do research myself on the appropriate sites, but I would like to hear real people this is going to hold his interest, pays off, and be tolerable for his little brother! If you can tell me on one of the following places, we would be very grateful. Obviously, not everyone will know everything. We will be driving, and it will be in August! We must allow the heat to nap and for very light-skinned brother (it's a redhead).

San Jacinto - Monument? museum?

Washington-on-the-Brazos - I remember a museum, but not much because he was probably 20 years ago. Mapquest does not seem to recognize it, so I tried to Washington and he found near Navasota. Is that correct?

Sam Houston statue near Huntsville - center nearby? nothing else in the region?

NASA / Johnson Space Center - Tours, Museum?

We also plan to go to San Antonio, if the budget allows, to see the Alamo, the Riverwalk, and the Mercado. All areas, we must avoid when booking a hotel? Anywhere you stay particularly recommend that will not bust the budget? We need a pool for our mental health and free breakfast would be good. The Riverwalk and the Mercado still a must? We've been several times, but the last time was probably 12-15 years ago.

Thank you!

I saw both of Washington on the Brazos (Mapquest forget, go to the site http://www.birthplaceoftexas.com/ place) and San Jacinto Monument ( http://www.sanjacinto-museum.org/ ) this year and both were worth it. Kid? Not really, but education children. See my difference? I recommend slathering SPF 30 at least because you will be out for a good portion of these sites. My wife is a red light and guard his gooped with sunscreen.

San Jacinto first. I was there in June (we went to Mexico on vacation the next day, I was beaten). It is worth going to the top of the monument to the eye, and then see the film on the battle in the theater on the site. There is also an exhibition on how Houston has grown, which has been fascinating for me, a Houstonian, but perhaps not for you. After a walk around the key elements of the battlefield, hop in the car and the other half of the park, which includes the Battleship Texas. You can go on the battleship belowdecks to see some of the restoration of local volunteers have done. Rooms have been restored to the equipment then the Second World War and life. You can also cover some more guns on the main deck, which is fun for children. The battleship takes me back to my Navy days, even if I was on the par ... all the jargon erupted again in my head (hard to believe that was 20 years ago).

Washington on the Brazos. We went in May and had a very pleasant time. We picnicked on the banks of the Brazos River in the rest of a pecan orchard old after walking around the paths that took us through the first Texas Capitol. We also spent time at the visitor center and the Star of the Republic Museum (good movie about the events that led to the independence of Texas).

I've never been to the great statue of Sam Houston (exit 109 off I-45, I think). I do not know what else there is to do outside to see Sam Houston State University or cruise from the walls of the TDC unit.

Johnson Space Center. Seen it in April. I took my father and my.
