What style of self storage facility should I keep vinyl in the? I live in the north-east, will miss the autumn, and plan to put my records and comic books in a self-storage facility. I have every box properly, but need to determine if I need to spring the extra cash for a climate-controlled storage space or regular style garage. Would it matter during these months? Would it be more material in the other months? Thank you.
Climate controlled.
You want maximum temp does not exceed the mid-80s F. Humidity is not very important for vinyl, but the jackets paper deteriorates rapidly in a moist environment. 23% relative humidity should be ok, but to be sure, check with your local bindery. They must have some cards for paper vs. water absorption.
Even if you have all your comics in "bags" and well-supported, if you put them in a garage-style "storage they could get" wet "comes from the moisture in the air. If you want to pay for climate controlled storage is yours ... but if they are "as new" or even "very good" I think you would be wise to do it ... and not just for when you are away, but store-regular "if you want them in this status over time. It is important, whatever the "month" ... especially now, when the "weather" changes all over the world.
Pay the extra! old vinyl is easily damaged by moisture and heat and cold!
