Astronaut costume child, make or buy? HELP!? I had two days to bring a suit for an astronaut to seven years. Any suggestions where I can find a simple plan / model for a low cost, or where I could get a cheap and quick?
Why not do it with cardboard boxes and aluminum foil? Use a smaller head and a larger one for the body. Tape the two boxes togther in a stack and cut the holes inside the head to pass through in the small box.
Cut an additional hole in the front of the little box and make a window sealed with Saran Wrap on it from the inside if you want. Cut two more holes on the sides of the larger box for the arms to poke through. Wrap everything with aluminum foil.
For a button, you can buy a length of flexible dryer vent hose (aluminum type) and cut one or two pieces to use as arm covers. Total cost of the costume would be about $ 15 dollars, including the flexible tube.
You can dress this thing in many different ways with antennae on their heads and painted plastic bottles of soft drinks on the back as air tanks. Use your (or his) imagination!
go to any store (Jo Ann's, Hancock) and see the costume pattern books.
I have made many costumes for theater and children and they have year around models and all necessary items. Ask to see the tissue section after clearance of the model you choose. Each partner can help you get the supplies needed to make the costume. They carry craft supplies and fabric and patterns.
tack cloth is available at the store and saves a lot of time with accessories (not construction) of the costume.
I say if you use lame fabrics, buy a bottle of fray check (to avoid the collapse) and a sewing machine needle metal. The son dull metallic needle quickly than regular tissue does. The finished fabric is worth the extra effort if you go this route.
Well ask ur child if they want new and if they say yes, then you can go buy a new one, but if u dnt want to spend money to make ur self
