Attic Space

Attic SpaceUsing your attic more effectively

Often, your loft or attic will be overlooked as a useful space, outside storage for things like your Christmas decorations, luggage and other "things". How much space you have in your attic depends on several things, including the height of your roof, which will determine much of what can be done with it.

First, you need to speak with an architect or other specialist who will want to study space and will be able to give you an idea of what you can do with it. Most attics are not easily accessible, thought and care must go the way you enter the space, which can determine whether your loft / attic is a room every day as a bedroom or office, or more rarely used as a playroom or hobby.

Now you have decided to develop your attic, what can you do? Maybe you need another bedroom or for a growing family or for use when you have family or friends who come to stay. Depending on how much space you have, you can fit a bathroom suite as well.

You may decide that a playroom for your children would be the best use of space. In this way, they are in a place of their own with all the toys of their games and books at your fingertips. They are also in a separate part of the house, giving the rest of the family a little quiet time.

Space for an office, study or library might be in short supply and that is what you need for improving your home. A quiet room to work, study or read would be a blessing in most households, with the added bonus of having the computer out of the main dining room or bedrooms in your house.

A gym at home may be your thing or maybe you need space to pursue your hobby. You can equip the room with all the equipment you need and have the equipment you've always wanted at home. Just think, without going to work or not to have to pack your kit when you run out of time while working on your hobby.

What you want additional space for, you'll need to make sure it is properly converted. At the very least, your new room will require insulation and windows, and a good floor. You can then decorate according to his purpose. Accessories such as shelves and cupboards should not be overlooked. This space saving storage will maximize floor space and allow you to have as much usable space as possible.

Remember to provide adequate ventilation and heating and try to make the most of any natural light as well. Take time to talk with professionals about what you want out of the conversion and how this can be done, that way you'll be happy with the outcome.
